The story behind the name
Gein was the nickname of Giuseppe Guido, a diver from Loano: short for Angein, angel in Ligurian. The restaurant's mark is his diving helmet.
Giuseppe Guido, father of Alessandro and grandfather of Simone, was born in Loano to an old local family and took the nickname Gein — short for Angein, angel in Ligurian.
At seventeen he began working underwater: off South Africa, Greece and Great Britain, mostly recovering iron and copper from the wrecks of the Normandy landings. He was part of the crew of the Artiglio.
He went on working as a diver in Loano alongside his son Alessandro for some thirty years.
Alessandro named the restaurant Gein in honour of his father and his family.
